Renowned New York-born fragrance brand, source adage, finds inspiration – and a new home – among the vineyards and olive groves of coastal Tuscany. Under a fresh new slogan of “Born in New York. reMade in Italy”, founders and fragrance creators Christopher Draghi and Robert Dobay have traded their fragrance boutique in trendy Hudson, New York for a new “olfactory studio” in the quiet hilltop town of Riparbella. This renowned Italian wine region, with rolling hills that sweep up from the sea, forms the picturesque backdrop to the stylish “adage studio olfattivo”.

They transformed the ground level of a handsome 18th century Tuscan “palazzetto” into a modern scent workspace. With an elevated retail reception area designed with touches of Italian mid-century flair, the studio opens up to a rare peek into the perfumer’s world of raw ingredient vials and stainless steel worktables in full view. It’s an intentional shift in focus from a traditional retail experience to one that reflects what source adage is all about: the passion for fragrance creation. As the space evolves, Draghi and Dobay imagine welcoming fragrance lovers from around the globe for workshops and events with experts in the industry.

The move to Italy also allows the hands-on duo to oversee production of their beloved niche fragrances by local producers and personally introduce their brand to a fragrance-savvy European market. Three of the current source adage eau de parfums kick off the European launch, with more to be added over the next year, bringing the line up to speed with the US offering. As the perfumes hit the old continent’s shelves, home scents, the original source adage offering, are being readied in studio. This rollout starts in April with their all-natural “apothecary collection” candles and reed diffusers, with the brand’s coveted “Signature Collection” home scents getting the Made in Italy stamp later in the year.
